Long Road to Mercy by David Baldacci
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I really enjoyed this book. The plot was very interesting and among the best of Baldacci. I enjoyed seeing him write a book with a duo of female leads instead of a male or male female pair.
I see some criticisms of the plot and the characterization of Atlee. Regarding problems with the "unbelievably" of the plot...it's a work of fiction. I don't expect thriller books to be 100% realistic, nor would I want them to be. I read nonfiction when I want factual accuracy. I didn't think Atlee was characterized poorly. I think she was pretty well defined as a lifelong athlete and law enforcement officer, which may not be regularly represented in many books. Just my opinion though!
My only gripe with this book was the pretty blatant sequel bait with Atlee's personal journey. This is obviously going to turn into a series, but I feel like the references to the mystery of her past didn't really do much or add to this particular story. They should have been cut or fully fleshed out, in my opinion.
