The Manchurian Candidate by Richard Condon
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
I really struggled with what to rate this book. At times, I was super engrossed in the tale and couldn't wait to listen to the next section. However, there were many times when I found myself completely zoning out because I was bored from what was going on. Yet, I definitely found it interesting to listen to this book, especially given the references to it during the 2016 US election.
I thought the overall mind control scheme was intriguing, but the family dynamics were less engaging to me. I do understand that the two are inherently tied together, however.
I'm not disappointed that I listened to the book, as it was not a huge time commitment. Perhaps I will revisit the book in a few years, but as the physical version this time. I do intend to check out the Denzel movie, as well.
Much as I struggled to rate it, I'm finding it hard to give a read or pass recommendation on this one - I would say take the gamble.
