Pines by Blake Crouch
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
One of the Stepford Wives and Steven King had a baby in the middle of a trip to The Maze Runner and The Village, and out popped this book. What starts as a simple police procedural quickly takes a hard left into science fiction and intrigue.
This book is definitely a trip - both literal and figurative. Ethan, our protagonist, has a hard time understanding what is going on, and we feel it with him. There's a certain level of disconnect from reality, but it serves the narrative well.
I truly loved this book and can't wait for the next one in the series.
