The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
I enjoyed this book overall. In my rating world, three stars isn't bad - just means that it wasn't one of the best books I've ever read. It was definitely a solid WWII book that showed the civilian side rather than the war side.
Rather than reading the book, I listened to it as an audiobook. That may be why I don't understand why it's such a highly praised book. I had a hard time keeping the characters straight and the time-frames. I really think at some point I may go back and read it as a book versus listen to it cause I definitely was intrigued at many points. I did feel like the book was a tad long and repetitive in some places however.
I do recommend giving this a shot if you are a fan of historical fiction, but do not do it as an audiobook in my opinion. The performance was fine, but this is a type of read that needs more nuance and "flip back" ability than just an audiobook can provide.
