The Wife Before Me by Laura Elliot
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
Another entry into the wildly popular "domestic thriller" genre. To be honest, it was a pretty straightforward, by the numbers thriller about a husband with a troubled past and his new love. I called most of the "twists" early on in the book, but it was still a fun and quick read.
I do think this book does a solid job of showing domestic abuse, how victims are manipulated into making excuses for their abusers, and how they are conditioned to stay. I do not think the love story was very believable, however.
The dual points of view are well-done for the first half of the book, but then it gets extremely muddled and confusing. The ending definitely feels rushed and not a satisfying conclusion.
I recommend this book to fans of books in the vein of Girl on the Train and the likes.
