Redemption by David Baldacci
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Another fantastic book by fellow Virginian David Baldacci. Much like the rest of the Decker series, what seems to be an innocuous crime ends up being a much bigger conspiracy. Without giving too much away, there ends up being a large scale, multiple year spanning plot that hops on the latest fears in 2019 America.
Two things held it back from being a 5 star read. First, there were some sentences/paragraphs that read in an awkward manner. For example, one sentence included the phrase "dressed expensively with earring-draped ears and necklace-draped necks." Not the type of writing I expect from a best selling author. Additionally, the "2019's latest fears" trope is becoming a little overused in thrillers.
Nevertheless, definitely an enjoyable read. The compelling writing, strong characterization, and final twists more than make up for my minor grips. Worth the read.
