The Wedding Crasher

on Tour June 1-30, 2019
Samantha Tate is Picket County’s yoga-loving, poker-playing new sheriff, a former Nashville homicide detective who struggles with her inner demons. To catch the meticulous murderer, Sam will have to follow her instincts and ignore her worst impulses. Can she stop the Wedding Crasher before another bride-to-be dies?
My Review:Sam Tate ranks highly in the realm of female detectives, which seems to be a new favorite sub-genre of mine this year. This book is a gripping read that explores how a small town sheriff can blow the case wide open on an unsolved series of brutal murders across the country. There are a ton of red herrings and misdirects, but they are handled in an expert manner. Descriptions of the cast of characters are handled well and details about the murders are done in an tasteful manner. Throughout the story, the stakes just keep rising - on both police and professional levels.
My only criticism was between the 2/3 to 3/4 mark of the book. I don't know exactly what it was, but I could just not get too interested in that section. Yet, be sure to push through - I found the ending to be fantastic.
It appears this book is book 1 of a larger series. I look forward to reading the next one when it is released in 2020. There is a larger plot than just that of the Wedding Crasher and I cannot wait to see how the backstory of Sam is fleshed out and expanded in her future.
It's without any hesitation that I say Ms. Stern has done her both the genre as a whole and new characters justice. I highly recommend this to fans of police procedurals, mysteries, or serial killer thrillers. Followers of Patterson, Coben, and Baldacci should also check it out.
