Pet Sematary by Stephen King
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
The 80s adaptation of Pet Sematary was a guilty pleasure and running joke throughout my college years. However, the book is so much better than the movie, as is often the case.
The core elements stay the same - family moves to a new house, complete with their very own supernatural cemetery. Cat dies, comes back to life. Kid dies, comes back to life, but evil.
Yet there is a slower built throughout the book, which makes it that much creepier. Side plots that seem out of place in the movie (such as the majority of Rachel's backstory with her family) make a lot more sense. There is a deeper dive into the issue of how to approach death with children and the descriptions are so much more vivid.
I definitely recommend this one. It's a long listen (and Michael C. Hall does a phenom job), but will worth it.
