Review: Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl: The Definitive Edition

Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl: The Definitive Edition Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl: The Definitive Edition by Anne Frank
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

As someone who has an extreme interest in the Holocaust and WWII, I'm not sure how I've gotten to be 29 and never read this "must read."

I will be perfectly honest in saying that I did not like Anne much in the beginning. I know that is sort of blasphemy, but she seemed like a typical teenage brat. However, her transformation throughout the book (and her life) was subtle yet impressive. I feel like we really got to see how the progressed and grew into a young woman.

This edition sounds to be the most comprehensive (which is probably why it's called the definitive edition). It definitely spans two genres - a coming-of-age memoir and a non-fiction account of the horrors of being in hiding.

I am glad I did this as an audiobook, as Selma Blair really did an incredible job. This truly is a must read in the echelons of Holocaust works.
